Weather Information

It's getting colder outside and soon the snow will come (oh no!).  Be sure to stay updated on any news regarding bus cancellations and school closures during inclement weather.  Below is an information sheet sharing everything you need to know in the event of a bus cancellation or school closure.

STOPR Bad Weather

It's getting hot outside! Finally!  Be sure to be safe in the heat.  Attached is a poster to share with your family about Heat Stress and information regarding our Hot Weather School Plan.

Heat Stress Poster

Hot Weather School Plan

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Wear light, loose clothing
  • Use sunscreen and wear a hat outdoors
  • Schedule frequent breaks; reduce high energy activities
  • Use authorized circulating fans
  • Visit cooler parts of the school as appropriate (library, office, front atrium)
  • Monitor for signs of heat stress and inform administration
  • When possible, keep windows open
  • Stay in shaded areas when possible

Administration is to follow the humidex guidelines from Environment Canada and respond accordingly (reduced time outdoors, staying inside, minimize activity level, etc.).

Health and Safety:

Protecting the Skin

Over exposure to the sun can cause skin damage. We remind students regularly to take precautions to protect their skin during recess breaks. The following are some suggestions to help protect the skin:

  • Wear protective clothing to cover the skin.
  • Wear a hat to protect both the eyes and the skin.
  • When possible, stay out of direct sunlight.
  • Know your skin type and if you are more sensitive wear sun block with a high level of protection.

Parents are encouraged to reinforce these strategies with their children regularly.

Please see the approved DPCDSB School Year Calender for the 2019-2020 school year, to help plan for any fun vacations and appointments.
